Professional Statement
Dr. Lichtenstein is the Director of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Boston Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Lichtenstein completed fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He later served as Chief Medical Resident at Duke University Medical Center and subsequently received advanced interventional endoscopy training at Duke University Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Dr. Lichtenstein is a nationally recognized authority in the area of interventional pancreatic and biliary endoscopy. He directs a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Center with nine high definition video-endoscopy procedure rooms including a dedicated ERCP room with additional facilities for endoscopic ultrasonography, intraductal endoscopy, radiofrequency mucosal ablation, capsule endoscopy, argon plasma coagulation, deep enteroscopy, nutrition conduit placement, manometry and breath testing. He supervises Gastroenterology Fellowship training in advanced endoscopic procedures and is responsible for evaluating and implementing new endoscopic technologies at Boston Medical Center. His main interests focus on the development and application of endoscopic approaches for diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal hemorrhage, pancreaticobiliary tract disorders, deployment of expandable metallic stents for intestinal and ductal obstruction, and novel mucosal imaging techniques.

Dr. Lichtenstein is an active member and current Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). He has been included in several Who’s Who directories and selected for inclusion in The Best Doctors in America database, “Best of Boston” gastroenterologist as well as Guide to America’s Top Doctors. He is the former chair of the ERCP Section of the Annual Scientific Program Committee for Digestive Disease Week, member of the Research, Standards of Practice, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Self-Assessment Program Committees of the ASGE, past President of the New England Endoscopy Society and current member of the International and Web Education Committees of the ASGE.
